Toledo Edison Interconnection

Toledo Edison uses the same FirstEnergy Ohio Retail Interconnection portal as Ohio Edison and The Illuminating Company. What changes for Toledo Edison customers is the operating-company contact path and the Toledo Edison tariff book.

Posted Level 1 (most residential): ≤ 25 kW, inverter-based, certified; application fee listed at $50. Level 2 and Level 3 fees are posted on the same FirstEnergy page ($50 + $1/kW and $100 + $2/kW respectively). Submit site plan, one-line diagram, and fees with the application; after install, return the Level 1 Short Form Agreement, Net Energy Metering Rider application, and third-party inspection materials in the order FirstEnergy publishes.

Toledo Edison Rider No. 14 — Net Energy Metering

Toledo Edison’s controlling residential net-metering sheet is Rider No. 14 Net Energy Metering Rider (Original Sheet No. 93, effective October 27, 2009, still listed in the current Toledo Edison electric tariff table of contents). Qualifying customer-generator facilities include solar on the customer’s premises, operated in parallel, intended primarily to offset the customer’s own electricity use.

Metering must use a single bi-directional meter; meter upgrade costs are the customer’s responsibility on written request. Billing: if Toledo Edison supplies more kWh than the facility feeds back in the period, all energy charges of the applicable rate schedule apply to the net delivered kWh. If the facility feeds back more than Toledo Edison supplies, energy charges of the Generation Service Rider (GEN) apply to that net excess; credits accumulate on the bill or, on written request, may be refunded up to an annual twelve-month true-up.

Reading a Toledo Edison Bill for Solar

Look for “Toledo Edison” as the delivery company. Note whether you buy generation from Toledo Edison or a competitive retail electric service (CRES) supplier — that changes which generation lines appear, but interconnection and Rider No. 14 still run through Toledo Edison as the EDU.

Is Level 1 the usual residential path?

Yes for inverter-based systems ≤ 25 kW that meet FirstEnergy’s posted Level 1 criteria. Larger or non-qualifying designs move to Level 2 or Level 3.
