Duke Energy Ohio on the Bill

Confirm Duke Energy Ohio on your bill. Near a territory edge, use the PUCO electric service-area map rather than a suburb rumor. Cincinnati does not run a residential municipal electric utility like Cleveland Public Power or Columbus Division of Power.

City of Cincinnati Building + IBI Electrical

The City of Cincinnati currently states that building permits are required for residential rooftop solar PV, commercial solar PV, solar plus battery systems, and ground-mounted PV before work starts. Zoning review occurs concurrently with the building-permit process, with additional review possible in historic districts and certain other situations.

The electrical permit is not issued by the City. Inspection Bureau, Inc. (IBI) handles electrical plan review and inspection for Cincinnati. Best practice from the city’s solar checklist: building permit first, then electrical. The building Certificate of Completion waits until the electrical permit is issued and certified complete.

Cincinnati lists rooftop solar as a Tier 2 plan-review type. The city posts targeted review times; those are targets, not guarantees. Floodplain and incomplete filings take longer. City vs County vs Nearby Cities

A Cincinnati city address uses the City Permit Center plus IBI electrical. Unincorporated Hamilton County townships (and some contract jurisdictions) often use Hamilton County Buildings + Inspections, with zoning from the local zoning authority first — electrical still commonly through IBI. Incorporated enclaves such as Norwood run their own building department and do not use the Cincinnati Permit Center.
